For almost 10 years I have been spending a few hours a week on freelance work. Development, editing, design, digitalization. Assignments that allow me to express my creativity and that I can pick up from home in addition to my studies and work.

When interest grew, I decided to really start working on it. But what name do you choose for your company? I searched for words that describe me and my working method and soon came up with sophisticated“You write as you come across: refined.” one of my clients recently said. Sophisticated is a word that I like to use to describe Japan; a country where my heart still lies. Even in the years that I lived in Japan, I was regularly complimented on my sophisticated appearance, despite the fact that I was a gaijin foreigner.

After some searching and playing with ways to make the name my own, I came up with Sophisticae. Derived from the Latin sophisticus, this has two beautiful meanings:

  1. Skilled in words (1)
  2. Philosopher (from sophist, 2)

And my middle name is also Sophia. That's how it happened: I am now owner of Sophisticae!
